Learners at the Lethabong Maths, Science and ICT School of Specialisation in Gauteng have built a fully functional electric vehicle as part of a school innovation project.
The vehicle was developed through the Schools of Specialisation programme and focuses on cleaner transport technology.
The project aims to reduce emissions by promoting electric mobility while giving learners practical experience in engineering and problem-solving.
Education officials say the initiative prepares students for careers in the automotive and technology sectors.

Grade 5 learners compete in challenge

Grade 5 learners from 23 schools across Johannesburg South competed in the 4th Number Your Words Challenge hosted by Region G Libraries.
The literacy and numeracy competition tested learners in reading, mathematics, logic and geometry during the Tier A semi-final at Lenasia Ext 3 Library on 13-May 2026.
Redwood Academy and Al Aqsa Ext 5 Primary secured places in the finals after competing against Eldocrest Primary and Lenasia Muslim School.
The finals will take place at Lenasia Ext 3 Library on 19 and 20 May as learners battle for top honours.
