Young women at the Lethabong School of Specialisation in Soshanguve have received practical support and mentorship through the Faculty of ICT’s Help a Girl Child Apply initiative.
The programme assisted learners with university applications while also offering guidance, motivation and skills development aimed at encouraging girls to pursue careers in information and communication technology.
Student leaders and mentors ran interactive sessions focused on confidence building, self reflection and career awareness, alongside hands on help with selecting and applying for ICT related courses.
The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve access to higher education and increase the number of young women entering the technology sector.

Garden Route Named Among World’s Most Instagrammable Road Trips

South Africa’s Garden Route has been ranked one of the world’s most Instagrammable road trips, placing sixth in a new international study analysing travel photography trends.
The route between Mossel Bay and Storms River is known for its coastline, forests and mountain passes, attracting more than 754,000 Instagram hashtags linked to its scenery and landmarks.
Earlier this year, the Garden Route was also named the world’s best road trip for driving conditions.
The latest recognition places the route among some of the world’s leading travel destinations.

Immersive African Digital Experience Premieres at Wits Digital Dome

A new international immersive production titled Kancícà has premiered at the Wits Anglo American Digital Dome in Johannesburg, featuring a full dome storytelling experience developed across Benin, Brazil and France.
The 35 minute production forms part of the Immersive Africa initiative and is presented alongside a South African work exploring African mythology and history through digital technology.
Led by Wits University and the Fak’ugesi African Digital and Innovation Festival, the programme showcases Africa’s growing presence in immersive media and creative storytelling.
The experience will run at the Digital Dome until August 2026.

A 10 year old boy in Brownsville, Texas, has turned a school hobby into a growing small business using 3D printing technology from his home.
Ernesto Gael Hernandez started by buying his first printer with money he earned from chores, using it to experiment with small creations such as keychains and gadgets before turning it into a business.
He has since expanded his setup to three 3D printers, producing custom designs for customers while continuing with school, with support from his mother.
