Teaser / Tailpiece story
More than 200 students graduating from North Carolina State University received an unexpected gift during their commencement ceremony when speaker Anil Kochhar announced he would pay off all final year student loans for the Class of 2026 at the Wilson College of Textiles.
The donation will benefit 176 bachelor’s graduates and 26 master’s students, helping ease the financial pressure as they begin their careers.
Kochhar said the gesture honours his late father, who moved from India to study textile manufacturing at the university in the 1940s and later built a successful career in the industry.
The announcement was met with loud cheers from students and their families during the ceremony.
