Three Sizwesethu learners qualify for District Mathematics Olympiad
Story 1
Three learners from Sizwesethu Primary School have qualified for the District Mathematics Olympiad after competing against students from 16 schools in the Duduza and Nigel cluster.
The Olympiad tested students’ problem-solving and mathematical reasoning skills, and only nine learners advanced to the District Championships.
Grade 4 learner, Nosipho Khaba, Praise Choene in Grade 5 and Kamohelo Bolibe in Grade 6—stood out among learners from 16 local schools when they solved tough math problems at last last week's competition.
The school says their success shows what young learners can achieve with support, and hopes it will inspire other children in the community to enjoy and excel in mathematics.

Glaucoma, known as the “silent thief of sight,” can develop without symptoms and lead to permanent vision loss, along with other conditions like cataracts.
During the third quarter of the 2025/26 financial year, the department issued spectacles to adults and children, exceeding its targets and helping residents correct vision problems.
As part of World Glaucoma Week running from 8-14 March, community outreach and awareness activities encouraged regular eye exams to detect conditions early and prevent avoidable blindness.
