TUT Partners to Strengthen Cyber Safety Education for Learners in Lenasia

The Tshwane University of Technology’s Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, in partnership with The Cyberculture Foundation, has rolled out a cyber safety awareness programme at Jiswa School in Lenasia, Gauteng.
The initiative focused on equipping learners with skills to navigate digital spaces safely and responsibly, covering cyberbullying, online risks, protecting personal information and responsible social media use.
The session included interactive discussions aimed at encouraging positive digital behaviour, including for learners with special educational needs.
The programme was delivered to help learners recognise unsafe online situations and respond appropriately while building confidence in their use of technology.

IDC Deal Saves Tongaat Hulett from Liquidation

The Industrial Development Corporation has stepped in to prevent sugar producer Tongaat Hulett from going into liquidation through a deal with the Vision Consortium led by businessman Robert Gumede.
The company remains under business rescue, while the intervention is expected to stabilise operations and secure thousands of jobs across the sugar value chain.
SA Canegrowers Association CEO Thomas Funke says the move helps protect South Africa’s sugar sector and the farmers who rely on it as a key buyer of sugarcane.

Young Learners to Take Part in Johannesburg Engineering Hackathon

Fifty five learners from underserved schools across South Africa will take part in the Young Engineers Movement Hackathon hosted by ORT South Africa in partnership with Hudaco in Johannesburg from 22 to 26 June 2026.
Over five days, the learners will work in teams to design, build and test engineering and technology prototypes based on real challenges from their communities. Their projects will be showcased on Exhibition Day, where they will be presented to judges, educators and industry representatives.
Eleven teachers will also participate in the programme, receiving hands on training and practical experience they can take back into their classrooms.

Barbican Centre to Stage Pan-African Arts Season

The Barbican Centre in London will host a major programme from June to September 2026 exploring the influence of pan-Africanism on contemporary arts and culture.
The season will feature more than 50 events, including exhibitions, music, film, talks and workshops with artists from Africa and the global diaspora.
At its centre is a large exhibition of more than 300 works tracing how pan-African ideas have shaped identity, politics and artistic expression over more than a century.
The programme will also include performances by artists such as Pat Thomas, Meshell Ndegeocello and Sammy Baloji.
