School Shoe Campaign supports vulnerable learners

The Masechaba Foundation has launched a campaign to provide 120 pairs of school shoes to underprivileged learners at Princess Primary School in Weltevreden Park.
The school will identify the children most in need, while a local manufacturer will produce the shoes at a cost of R49 a pair.
The foundation is appealing for financial donations from individuals, businesses and community members to reach its target.
Organisers say the initiative is also aimed at building a long-term partnership to support vulnerable learners.

Children in the Free State with serious heart problems can now get treatment closer to home thanks to a new heart unit at Universitas Academic Hospital in Bloemfontein.
The first facility of its kind in the province will treat children with heart conditions, meaning fewer families will have to travel to other provinces for care.
Free State Health HOD Ernest Mohlahlo says the new unit is part of efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve service delivery in the province.

EduSport and SPAR Eastern Cape are expanding the Champ Box programme to provide sports equipment, literacy materials and coaching opportunities for young people in province.
Yesterday, the organisations concluded their coaching clinic for 60 children at Kidd's Beach and continue training unemployed youth to coach rugby, soccer and netball in local schools for a stipend.
The programme aims to create opportunities for young people in a province where more than half of those aged 15 to 34 are unemployed.
