US Moves to Protect All Pangolin Species Amid Trafficking Crisis
Story 3
In a major conservation step, the United States has proposed extending endangered species protections to all eight types of pangolins — the world’s only scaly mammals.
These shy, nocturnal creatures are heavily trafficked for their scales and meat, despite already being listed under global trade bans.
The move would tighten trade restrictions and help curb illegal imports into the US, which has seen dozens of intercepted pangolin shipments in recent years.
Conservationists have welcomed the proposal, saying it’s a vital move to save pangolins from the brink of extinction.
