Summit gymnasts claim provincial colours

The Summit Gymnastics Club celebrated a successful performance at the Gauteng Festival after 34 of its gymnasts earned top honours at the province's premier competition.

The competition was held at the National Training Centre in Centurion and saw athletes compete across Levels 1 to 3 in Women's Artistic Gymnastics, with many securing provincial colours in their age groups.

The gymnasts competed on vault, bars, beam and floor. The Club owner Lauren Perry said 24 gymnasts finished in the gold category, nine in silver and three in bronze.

UWC dominates USSA Dance Championships

The University of the Western Cape’s Dance Sport Club claimed 21 medals at the 2026 University Sports South Africa Dance Sport Championships that was hosted by the University of the Free State.

The event featured a wide range of competitions including Latin American, Standard, and Street Dance.

The University won 10 gold, seven silver and four bronze medals across ballroom, Latin American and street dance events.

Co-captain Dene Visser says hard work and dedication contributed to its success.

Final call for 2026 National Arts and Culture Awards nominations

The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture has issued a final call for nominations for the 2026 National Arts and Culture Awards.

The awards honour achievements across the arts, culture and heritage sectors. Artists, cultural institutions, community organisations, industry bodies and members of the public have until 11:59 pm on Sunday the 19th of July to submit nominations.

The Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie says the country is home to exceptional creative talent and says deserving artists can only be recognised if they are nominated.

The Minister encouraged South African citizens to put forward the names of performers, writers, filmmakers, cultural practitioners and other creatives whose work has made a meaningful impact.

Submissions can be completed and submitted via the official National Arts and Culture Awards Portal.

More than ‌‌100,000 supporters gathered in the streets of Oslo, to welcome Norway's national football team following its historic FIFA World Cup campaign.

The squad received a traditional water cannon salute on arrival before taking part in a victory parade through the Norwegian capital.

Norway reached the men's World Cup quarterfinals for the first time in the country's history, beating five-time winners Brazil in the round of 16.

Star striker Erling Haaland scored seven goals in Norway's first World Cup campaign in 28 years.
