The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture has issued a final call for nominations for the 2026 National Arts and Culture Awards.
The awards honour achievements across the arts, culture and heritage sectors. Artists, cultural institutions, community organisations, industry bodies and members of the public have until 11:59 pm on Sunday the 19th of July to submit nominations.
The Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie says the country is home to exceptional creative talent and says deserving artists can only be recognised if they are nominated.
The Minister encouraged South African citizens to put forward the names of performers, writers, filmmakers, cultural practitioners and other creatives whose work has made a meaningful impact.
Submissions can be completed and submitted via the official National Arts and Culture Awards Portal.

Cape Town unveils battery-electric MyCiTi bus

The City of Cape Town's public transport network is embracing cleaner mobility with the introduction of its first battery-electric MyCiTi bus.
The prototype bus, will be tested on a range of city routes, including steep inclines and busy commuter corridors, as part of a pilot programme to test how the vehicle performs under local driving conditions, before a planned rollout of the electric fleet in 2027.
The City, says the pilot marks a significant milestone for the MyCiTi service, which has been operating for 16 years.
According to the City, electric buses could reduce operating costs by up to 70% compared with conventional vehicles, while lowering emissions and improving the long-term resilience of Cape Town's public transport system.
