The City of Tshwane says Pretoria’s informal economy has grown by 33% in the past year, creating an estimated 57,000 livelihoods. This comes after a new by-law was approved to support township and informal businesses. MMC for Economic Development Sarah Mabotsa said the sector is playing a key role in fighting unemployment and restoring economic dignity, especially for women and young people. The by-law expands the definition of informal trade to include spaza shops, flea markets, mobile traders and container-based businesses. This will offer better infrastructure, training and regulatory support.

NASA’s massive new moon rocket rolled out to the launch pad yesterday, marking a big step toward the first astronaut fly-around of the moon in more than 50 years.According to reports, the mission could blast off as early as February. Thousands of space center workers and their families turned watched the long-delayed moment at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Weighing in at around 5 million kilograms, the Space Launch System rocket and its Orion crew capsule were carried by a huge transporter which was first used during the Apollo and space shuttle days.
