A mother and her two young sons were turned away on their very first day of school in Durban, not for misconduct, but because they lacked school shoes. The distressed family was noticed by SAPS Sergeant Gona seelan and Constable Maharaj during routine patrols in the Phoenix area. According to reports the officers approached the mother to learn what had happened.The mother tearfully explained that the school could not admit her Grade 2 children without proper footwear, forcing her to take them home.Deeply moved, the officers purchased two pairs of brand-new school shoes and personally escorted the family back to the school.
