Three SA women referees appointed in Six Nations

World Rugby has confirmed the match officials for the 2026 Women’s Six Nations, Pacific Four Series, and the inaugural Under-21 Women’s Six Nations Series, with three South Africans included.
Aimee Barrett-Theron and Zoë Naudé will referee in the Six Nations, while Giana Viljoen will feature in the Under-21 series.
Barrett-Theron will become only the second female to referee 50 Tests when she takes charge of the Six Nations opener between France and Italy.
SA Rugby president Mark Alexander says the three are being rewarded for their hard work.

Father-daughter from Germiston to cycle 1 526 km for charity

Father and daughter Pierre and Simone du Preez will cycle 1 526 km from Germiston to Sea Point starting 21-February to raise funds for the Avril Elizabeth Home.
Their route passes through major towns from Germiston in Gauteng to Sea Point in the Western Cape, ending on March 4.
They have secured support from family, friends, colleagues, and companies, with donations pledged per kilometre or per stage of the ride.
The fundraising initiative follows the home’s previous cycling event hosted by Capri Wheelers in November 2025.
Organisers hope the ride inspires more people to support the Avril Elizabeth Home.

16-year-old publishes isiXhosa book

16-year-old Akahlulwa Ncokazi from Dutywa in the Eastern Cape has published her first isiXhosa book, 'Liphupha Lam Eli'.
The book, which translates to “This Is My Dream,” follows a young girl who wants to become a medical doctor and explores themes of ambition and perseverance.
Ncokazi says she wrote the book to encourage young people to read and write in isiXhosa and to promote pride in their home language:
