Members take part in sports, choir, gardening and gym sessions, while 13 home-based caregivers assist with chores, medication and companionship for bedridden residents.
Sixty elders are part of the active ageing group, while 156 receive home-based care, with support from clinics, police and social workers to ensure seniors remain connected and cared for.

George SPCA ‘Prisoners’ Raise R229,177 for Animals
Story 2
George’s SPCA brought the community together in a fun and unique way on 13 February, locking up more than a dozen local personalities for the charity’s annual ‘Locked Up for Love’ fundraiser.
The participants, including business owners, media personalities and community leaders, had to raise bail from friends, clients and followers to buy their freedom. By the end of the day, the event had raised R229,177, all of which will go toward food, medical care and shelter for the SPCA’s animals.
The Southern Civil Defence Force provided vehicles, handcuffs and manpower to make the fundraiser possible.
The SPCA says events like this are essential, as running the shelter costs over R1.5 million each month and relies heavily on community support.
