Learners and teachers attend STEM Bootcamp

Two hundred secondary school learners and 40 STEM teachers attended a two-day STEM Bootcamp at the University of Pretoria last week.
Participants took part in hands-on activities in electricity and engineering design, while mentorship sessions introduced learners, especially girls, to STEM careers.
The programme, ran with UNESCO, IEEE and the Basic Education as well as the Science, Technology and Innovation Departments, aims to give students early exposure to practical STEM skills and career opportunities.

Father-daughter from Germiston to cycle 1 526 km for charity

Father and daughter Pierre and Simone du Preez will cycle 1 526 km from Germiston to Sea Point starting 21-February to raise funds for the Avril Elizabeth Home.
Their route passes through major towns from Germiston in Gauteng to Sea Point in the Western Cape, ending on March 4.
They have secured support from family, friends, colleagues, and companies, with donations pledged per kilometre or per stage of the ride.
The fundraising initiative follows the home’s previous cycling event hosted by Capri Wheelers in November 2025.
Organisers hope the ride inspires more people to support the Avril Elizabeth Home.
