Rand Water advances major maintenance programme

The proactive work has been under way across Gauteng to strengthen key water supply systems. While the next phase continues, some areas may experience intermittent or no water supply.
Rand Water says the planned maintenance is aimed at upgrading and replacing ageing infrastructure.

Rescued loggerhead turtle returns to the ocean after 14 years

A loggerhead turtle known as DJ has been released back into the ocean after spending 14 years in rehabilitation at uShaka Sea World in KwaZulu Natal.
DJ was rescued as a tiny hatchling in 2011 after washing up on a Western Cape beach and was later transferred to Durban for long term care.
Over the years, she overcame several health challenges and grew into a healthy adult weighing more than 100 kilograms.
After final veterinary and behavioural assessments, she was cleared for release. Fitted with tracking tags,
DJ was returned to the sea, showing the impact of sustained marine conservation and rehabilitation efforts in South Africa.

FIFA introduces lower cost ticket option for 2026 World Cup

FIFA has announced a new lower priced ticket category for the 2026 World Cup following concerns over affordability.
A limited number of Supporter Entry Tier tickets will be available at 60 dollars for all 104 matches, including the final.
The tickets will be reserved for fans of qualified national teams and allocated through football associations. FIFA says the move is aimed at supporting travelling supporters and improving access to the tournament.
The organisation has also confirmed that administrative fees will be waived for refunds if a team is eliminated early. Ticket demand remains high, with millions of requests already received.
