Petco Empowerment Fund Helps Small Recycling Businesses Grow
Story 2
The Petco Empowerment Fund is helping small businesses in South Africa’s recycling sector by offering financial support and resources. The fund, supported by Petco’s members, helps B-BBEE Level 1 businesses improve their operations and collect more recyclable materials.

Petco CEO Telly Chauke said the fund helps these businesses grow and play a bigger role in recycling. One of the first businesses to benefit, Why Waste in KwaZulu-Natal, used its R1.3 million grant to buy new equipment, which will allow them to process more recyclables.

This will help reduce waste and support local communities. Why Waste expects to increase its collection by 20 to 25%, keeping more recyclables out of landfills each year.
