Smile Foundation calls for mismatched socks

The Smile Foundation is calling on South Africans to wear mismatched socks on 16 October as part of its 2026 Socks for Smiles campaign.
The campaign aims to raise enough money to fund 200 reconstructive surgeries for children with facial differences, burns and other treatable conditions.
People can buy a Socks for Smiles sticker for R20 at Dis-Chem stores, Rush and be.UP parks. The money raised will help provide children from underserved communities with access to reconstructive surgery and care.
The campaign encourages people to wear different socks as a way of showing support for children who live with facial differences.

Limpopo festival celebrates food and traditions

1000 Limpopo Secrets founder Thabiso Sekhula says the Limpopo Heritage and Food Festival will help keep the province’s traditions alive through food, storytelling and local culture.
The festival will take place on 26 September and 3 October, with communities coming together to share indigenous food and traditions.
The programme will also include masterclasses, giving visitors a chance to learn new skills and connect with Limpopo’s heritage.

New sports facility opens for Evaton learners

Deputy Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Peace Mabe has handed over a new multipurpose sports facility to learners at ED Mashabane Secondary School in Evaton, Gauteng.
The new “combi court” gives learners a space to take part in different sports and develop their skills.
Mabe also handed over sports clothing, equipment and educational books to learners from ED Mashabane, Tokelo and Mosiuoa schools.
The facility and donations are aimed at supporting both sport and learning in the local community.
