Smile Foundation calls for mismatched socks
Story 1
Rise Against Hunger South Africa and Clover Mama Afrika have provided more than 11,000 meals to vulnerable children and families in Princess, Roodepoort.
The partnership, which started in October 2025, aims to provide 54 000 meals to Mama Zakhe Rammekwa’s centre and local Early Childhood Development centres.
So far, more than 7 000 meals have gone to 10 ECD centres, while nearly 5 000 meals have been distributed through Mama Zakhe’s feeding programme.
Mama Zakhe says the meals have made a difference at her centre, where sourcing nutritious food has been difficult, and that for the families receiving them, the donations represent hope and a future.

Westville learners host mental health run
Story 2
Learners at Westville Girls’ High School in Durban have brought the community together for a mental health fun run and walk.
More than 400 people took part in the event at Westville Athletic Club, which was organised by the school’s Transformation and Diversity Mental Health Subcommittee.
The event formed part of Mental Health Awareness Month and focused on mental health and suicide prevention.
The learner-led initiative also received support from the Westville community, local organisations and sponsors.

Rugby boots give young players opportunities

Boots for the Boys & Girls is collecting used school rugby boots to give to young players who need equipment to play.
The Eastern Cape initiative will launch its first collection box at St Andrew’s College in Makhanda on 18-September.
It was started after organisers saw young players in KwaNobuhle playing rugby without proper boots and protective equipment.
The campaign plans to involve more schools across the Eastern Cape.

Squash to debut at 2028 Los Angeles Games

Squash will make its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles Games in 2028.
With that milestone ahead, Squash South Africa has named its team for the World Team Championships in South Korea later this year.
The team will use the tournament to gain international experience as South Africa prepares for the sport’s first Olympic appearance.
Squash SA President, Blaar Coetzee says the world team challenge forms an important part of squash South Africa's plans to ensure the country is competative nternationally:
