Story 1
The University of Johannesburg displayed its 3D Housing Printing Project at the 2025 National Construction Summit in Boksburg.
President Cyril Ramaphosa toured the exhibition, asking about costs, materials, and student involvement.
The 3D printer can build a full house in a single day using fast-drying cement and can also create additional structures like benches or pots.
Professor Jeffrey Mahachi said the project offers faster, sustainable, and affordable housing solutions for South Africa.
The summit, organised by the Construction Industry Development Board and the Department of Public Works, focuses on innovation, accountability, and improved infrastructure delivery.

Lanzerac Opens World’s First Fine Water Tasting Room
Story 2
Stellenbosch’s Lanzerac Wine Estate is now home to the world’s first Fine Water tasting room.
The Library features ultra-premium waters from around the globe, some costing over R1,000 per bottle.
Guests experience a 45-minute guided tasting led by water sommelier Nico Pieterse, sampling six waters, three still and three sparkling, comparing aroma, texture and minerality.
Rare waters include d’ORO from Romania, VEEN from Finland, Nevas from Germany, Three Bays from Australia and Lofoten from Norway.
Pieterse highlights how source and mineral content shape taste, while Dr Michael Mascha describes it as a “terroir-driven” water experience.
The tasting positions water as a sophisticated, sensory beverage, not just a daily necessity.

Baby Thrives After Life-Saving Surgery Aboard Mercy Ship
Story 3
A ten-month-old baby, Memunatu, has had a life-threatening tumor the size of her face removed in a free operation aboard the Mercy Ships’ Global Mercy in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
The growth had been developing since she was five months old, and local hospitals said she was too young for surgery.
Mercy Ships, a healthcare charity, intervened after a volunteer referred the baby for treatment.
Royal London Hospital surgeon Dr. Leo Cheng carried out the four-hour operation, carefully managing her airway.
The surgery successfully removed the tumor, saving her life and allowing her to cry, feed, and move more freely.
Since 2023, the Global Mercy ship has performed more than 3,600 free surgeries in sub-Saharan Africa.
