Johannesburg has received international recognition for its commitment to sustainability, urban greening, and inclusive public spaces, winning three prestigious awards at the World Urban Parks 2025 Awards.
The awards include the Best Entity Award for Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, acknowledging its exceptional leadership in managing parks, open spaces, and biodiversity assets.
The Large Urban Parks Award for Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve, recognizes its excellence in conservation and community participation; and the Most Distinguished Individual Award for JCPZ Green Ambassador Bishop Ngobeli, honouring his passionate advocacy of tree planting and urban forestry.
Executive Mayor Dada Morero has congratulated JCPZ, stating, the global recognition reaffirms Johannesburg's determination to build a clean, green, and vibrant city that showcases the best of Africa.

The National Business Initiative has launched the Installation, Repair and Maintenance project , a national program aimed at empowering township youth, TVET students, and small enterprises with skills and opportunities in the green economy.
This innovative initiative introduces three digital tools, including, the Green Economy Toolkit, IRM Hub Portal, and Learning App, designed to support training, business growth, and certification.
Over the next two months, the IRM Initiative aims to register 100,000 young people and Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises across multiple regions.
The program focuses on connecting participants with opportunities in installation, repair, and maintenance sectors, driving inclusive economic growth and environmental sustainability .

Eskom plans to add 5.2 gigawatts of new nuclear capacity

Electricity and Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has announced that Eskom plans to add 5.2 gigawatts of new nuclear capacity to the national system through future nuclear builds.
This is part of a wider Integrated Resource Plan - aimed at diversifying the grid and providing stable, reliable power.
Speaking at a media briefing in Pretoria yesterday, Ramokgopa, also annpounced that the power utility has successfully been granted licence extensions for both Unit One and Unit Two of the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station:
