Immersive African Digital Experience Premieres at Wits Digital Dome

A new international immersive production titled Kancícà has premiered at the Wits Anglo American Digital Dome in Johannesburg, featuring a full dome storytelling experience developed across Benin, Brazil and France.
The 35 minute production forms part of the Immersive Africa initiative and is presented alongside a South African work exploring African mythology and history through digital technology.
Led by Wits University and the Fak’ugesi African Digital and Innovation Festival, the programme showcases Africa’s growing presence in immersive media and creative storytelling.
The experience will run at the Digital Dome until August 2026.

Philippi Children Gain New Reading Corners to Boost Early Literacy

Twelve new reading corners have been handed over to early childhood development centres in Philippi, giving young children improved access to books and learning spaces aimed at strengthening early literacy.
The initiative, led in partnership with the Santa Shoebox Project and the V&A Waterfront, also included advanced training for 23 local ECD teachers through the Finding Thabo NPO. The training focused on play based learning and included a 40 week lesson plan designed to encourage a love of reading from an early age.
The programme comes as national data continues to highlight low literacy levels among young learners, with many children still struggling to read at grade level.
