Paddlers compete in Canoe Sprint Championships

Several local paddlers and members of the Academy of Canoe Development at the Roodeplaat dam performed exceptionaly during the recent South African Canoe Sprint Championships, which was hosted in the northeast of Pretoria.

Several teams will be selected to represent South Africa at the upcoming Junior u.23 and Senior World Canoe Sprint Championships in Portugal in July.

The championship races were held over distances of 200m, 500m, 1000m, and a long distance of 5000m.

Government hosts a transport sector engagement session

Trade, Industry and Competition Minister, Parks Tau and the Transport Minister, Barbara Creecy, hosted a transport sector engagement session on the Transformation Fund in Midrand yesterday.

The initiative aims to support black-owned businesses across various sectors and is backed by the Integrated Transport Sector B-BBEE Charter Council.

The engagement forms part of the roadshow programme on the R100 billion transformation Fund, which is set to be rolled out over a 5-year period, to support inclusive growth within the economy.

Keely Hodgkinson named a Member of the Order of the British Empire

Olympic Champion, Keely Hodgkinson has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire, after winning gold in the women's 800m race at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The athlete was recognized in the King's New year Honours list for her contribution to athletics.

The 23-year-old said she will participate in the Stockholm Diamond League meeting in June,
in what will be her first race since winning the Olympic gold.
