Community rallies to save historic Zoo Lake pool
Story 1
A Johannesburg community is raising R400 000 to repair the historic Zoo Lake public pool before the start of the 2026 and 2027 swimming season.
The Friends of Zoo Lake Pool campaign aims to replace ageing pipes that are leaking and causing major water losses, putting the pool's opening at risk.
Built in the late 1920s, the pool has served generations of families and is one of Johannesburg's few remaining open air municipal swimming pools.
The repairs form part of a wider restoration project as the pool prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2028.

Pretoria volunteers pack hope for vulnerable families
Story 3
Volunteers at Pharos Community Centre in Garsfontein have spent more than 17 years providing food and support to vulnerable families in Pretoria.
The centre distributes monthly food parcels to around 25 families and prepares between 60 and 80 additional parcels every Thursday for men attending its Life Skills programme.
Along with providing essential groceries, the initiative offers encouragement, dignity and practical support to people facing difficult circumstances. The centre is now calling on the community to donate non perishable food to help keep the programme going.
