The People of Joburg NPC will host a Community Wellness Day at Sinqobile Clinic on February 26, promoting cancer awareness, survivor support, and health equity.
The event brings together patients, survivors, families, healthcare professionals, and local leaders under the theme Wellness, awareness and ubuntu: Celebrating life beyond cancer.
Activities will include free cancer screenings, nutrition and wellness demonstrations, survivor stories, and interactive workshops on prevention and family support.

Government Encourages Learners to Explore Astronomy and Science

Pupils from Gugulethu and Langa recently got a glimpse of the universe beyond Earth during a visit to the Observatory in Cape Town.
The visit is part of the government’s efforts to encourage learners from previously disadvantaged areas to study astronomy, science and technology.
It forms part of the Higher Education Department’s initiative to promote science education and inspire young people to explore careers in STEM fields.

Tshwane Substation Upgrades Set to Improve Power Reliability

Mayor Nasiphi Moya says the City of Tshwane’s refurbishment of the W Substation in Soshanguve is on track for completion by the end of March 2026. The project, which began in October 2025, includes structural repairs, replacement of outdated equipment, and security upgrades to strengthen the electricity supply.
The work is part of the city’s energy stabilisation plan, which also targets the Riamapark 11kV and Blesbok substations. Once complete, the upgrades will reduce widespread outages, improve operational control, and provide more reliable electricity for homes, schools, and businesses.

Amputee Cyclist Rides to Fund Prosthetic for Teen

Eastern Cape cyclist Peet Neethling is riding from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town from 26 February to 5 March to raise awareness for people with limb differences.
His tour also supports 17-year-old Ubuko Mpotulo, who needs a new prosthetic due to growth.
Neethling says the ride is personal and inspiring. “Where your challenges start is where your dream begins,” he adds, highlighting his goal to help others and change perceptions about disability.
