Hurlyvale Park bees relocated after tree collapse
Story 1
About 80 000 bees were safely relocated from Hurlyvale Park after their tree habitat collapsed.
Community member Noel Brownlee arranged for a beekeeper to remove the bees due to safety concerns in the public park.
The bees were moved to a farm where they could be housed. Honey harvested during the process was repackaged into small bottles for the community.
Brownlee said flooding and the weight of the honeycomb likely caused the tree to collapse.
