Volunteers help strengthen Brakpan wildlife rehabilitation centre

Rotary East Rand and an international group of Rovers spent two days supporting the South African Wildlife and Rehabilitation Centre in Vischkuil, Brakpan.
The volunteers assisted with maintenance and animal care, including work on aviaries and enclosures to help provide safe spaces for injured and recovering wildlife.
The partnership is also expected to raise awareness of the centre and the work it does to rehabilitate animals before they are returned to the wild.

Landmark photography exhibition brings global award winners to South Africa

A major international photography exhibition has opened in Johannesburg, bringing a curated selection of winning images from the prestigious Sony World Photography Awards to South Africa for the first time.

The Roger Ballen Centre for Photography says the exhibition brings together internationally recognised work and the next generation of South African photographic talent.

Save A Soul adopts Daveyton school after winter clothing donation

Community organisation Save A Soul has donated 120 beanies and pairs of gloves to learners at Tshipi Noto Intermediate School in Daveyton.
More than 60 learners received the winter items during a visit to the school, with the remaining clothing left for distribution to other learners in need.
The donation also marks the start of a long term partnership, with Save A Soul announcing plans to formally adopt the school and provide continued support through future programmes.

South African learners help win global space engineering competition

Seven South African high school learners have helped their international team win a major space engineering competition at NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre in the United States.
The learners were competing internationally for the first time and joined participants from 17 countries to design a spacecraft capable of transporting 3 000 people across the inner Solar System.
Their team, Rockdonnell, took first place, while South African learner Joseph Allderman also received a Creative Genius Prize.
