South African scientists plan to put radio telescope on the Moon

South African expertise in radio astronomy is set to play a key role in Africa’s first space exploration mission, which aims to place a working radio telescope on the Moon in 2029.
The Africa2Moon project will send three small antenna equipped spheres to the lunar surface, where they will work together as a radio telescope.
Rhodes University is part of the mission, which builds on expertise developed through projects including MeerKAT and the Square Kilometre Array, while the long term goal is to place 55 antennas on the Moon, representing every African nation.
