The Smile Foundation has launched its Socks for Smiles campaign to promote inclusion and raise funds for children with facial differences and burn injuries.
South Africans are encouraged to wear colourful, mismatched socks on October 16 as part of the campaign.
The initiative was launched at the foundation’s Women’s Day Breakfast in Johannesburg.
Funds raised will support the Smile Foundation’s work providing reconstructive surgery and care to children.

A programme on Cape Town’s Cape Flats is helping 52 schoolgirls improve their academic performance and build confidence.
The programme, supported by The Angel Network SA, provides tutoring, life-skills development, mental-health support and camps for Grade 8 to 12 learners.
Some girls have improved their grades by several levels, while others have taken on leadership roles at school.
The programme also provides a safe space for girls affected by poverty, trauma and gang violence.

Soweto Kota Festival Returns to Rockville September

The Soweto Kota Festival returns to Rockville in September, with about 40 vendors expected to sell kota and other food at the Elkah Cricket Oval.
The two-day festival will also feature live performances, the Best Kota Competition, activities for children and brand activations.
Organisers expect thousands of visitors and more than 40 young people from Soweto will be employed during the event.
The festival also gives local food businesses a platform to showcase their products and attract new customers.

Top Squash Players Gather for National Championships

South Africa’s top squash players are in Cape Town for the 2026 Growthpoint SA National Championships.
The tournament brings together the country’s top eight junior and senior players in each division.
The U17 and U19 divisions ran from August 13–15, 2026, while the upcoming Seniors and U15 championships run from August 20–22, 2026.
