Eastern Cape woman regains sight after six years in darkness

A 68-year-old woman from the Eastern Cape, Zakade Nothambile, has had her sight restored after living in darkness for six years.
The change came through a surgical intervention by Grace Vision, which provides eye care services in rural communities where treatment is often difficult to access.
The organisation conducts regular screenings, treatments and sight restoring operations across the province, helping patients regain independence and daily function.
Following her procedking a major personal turning point after years of vision loss.

The small Northern Cape town of Hopetown is celebrating one of its own after Arthur Jantjies claimed a surprise victory at the 2026 Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon.
The 25 year old, who was relatively unknown before the race, won the 56 kilometre ultra marathon in a time of 3 hours 9 minutes and 25 seconds, beating several top favourites.
It was his debut at the event, where he surged ahead in the later stages to secure a breakthrough win and establish himself on the national running scene.
Residents gathered to give him a hero’s welcome on his return, with his victory bringing pride to the small Orange River town.
