Pretoria teacher Simoné van Niekerk is inspiring people after refusing to give up on a learner she has taught for six years.
She says she has always believed a child should not be judged on what they can do before being given a chance.
The learner, who has severe intellectual disabilities, now helps her pack food parcels every Friday, counting bags and measuring the correct quantities.
Van Niekerk says watching him do this makes her incredibly proud and shows what patience, opportunity and encouragement can achieve.

The National Youth Development Agency and National Empowerment Fund have committed an initial R100 million to support youth owned businesses.
The partnership, signed in Sunninghill, Johannesburg, will combine grants, loans and business development support to help young entrepreneurs start, grow and expand their businesses.
Funding will target sectors including manufacturing, renewable energy, agriculture, digital industries and small businesses.
The agencies say the fund will also help businesses create jobs and access established markets.

Westville Girls’ High School Hosts Mental Health Fun Run

Westville Girls’ High School in KwaZulu-Natal hosted its first Mental Health Fun Run and Walk at Westville Athletic Club, bringing together more than 400 participants.
The learner-led event was organised by the school’s Transformation and Diversity Mental Health Subcommittee to encourage conversations around mental health and suicide prevention.
Held during Mental Health Awareness Month, the event gave the Westville community an opportunity to show support for people who may be struggling and help reduce the stigma around mental health.
