South Africa has secured a new trade agreement with China that could generate around R400 million over the next five years, according to Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen.
The deal, signed in Shanghai with China’s customs authority, opens Chinese markets for South African apricots, peaches, nectarines, plums, and prunes.
It is the first time China has approved multiple stone fruits from one country under a single protocol.
The agreement is expected to boost local producers, create hundreds of jobs, and help offset the impact of US tariffs.
