Florida Lake Canoe Club is inviting community members to join free beginner canoeing lessons every Sunday in October and November at Florida Lake.
The sessions, starting at 14:00, will teach paddling techniques, balance, safety, and how to navigate calm waters.
Participants must be able to swim, and those under 18 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
All equipment will be provided, but booking in advance is essential due to limited space.
The initiative aims to give the community a chance to learn a new water sport in a safe and welcoming environment.

The Betway Cares Foundation has launched Voices of Her, a national mentorship and vocal talent development programme supporting young female artists across South Africa.
The 12-week initiative targets women aged 20 to 35 from disadvantaged communities, offering training in vocal skills, songwriting, branding, and music business management.
Mentorship will be led by award-winning artists Bucie Nqwiliso and Nomfundo Xaluva through a mix of online and in-person sessions.
Each participant will receive a laptop and data to support their learning. Applications are open nationwide, with 12 finalists to be announced on 24 October.

Archivists at Cambridge University are working to rescue valuable digital information from old floppy disks before it’s lost forever.
The effort began when the university received a box of 5.25-inch disks once used by physicist Stephen Hawking.
Their struggle to access the data revealed how fragile early computer storage has become.
The initiative, called Future Nostalgia, aims to preserve digital materials from the 1980s and 1990s that risk becoming unreadable.
Led by Leontien Talboom, the project involves restoring content from various outdated formats to ensure future generations can access early digital history.
