A Cape Town initiative is changing lives by giving unemployed youth a second chance. Green Riders, launched in 2023, trains young men and women from disadvantaged communities to become professional delivery riders using e-bikes.
Nineteen-year-old Taylor Pitcher from Manenberg is among more than 2,000 riders who have joined the programme, supporting her family through deliveries for Uber Eats.
The e-bikes are cheaper to run and environmentally friendly, helping riders save money while reducing emissions. With nearly a million deliveries completed, the initiative continues to create meaningful work opportunities for young people.
