City of Johannesburg receives R548 million grant
Story 1
The City of Johannesburg has received a R548 million grant from Invest International Public Programmes to support sustainable waste management initiatives.
The signing ceremony took place in Sandton, alongside the G20 Trade Ministerial.
The funding will drive the Alternative Waste Treatment Technology Project, improving how the city handles waste.
This initiative aligns with Johannesburg's Integrated Waste Management Plan and South Africa's Just Energy Transition Partnership goals, aiming to divert 500,000 tons of municipal solid waste from landfills annually, and generate 28-36 MW of electricity.
Mayor Dada Morero says this is a powerful endorsement of their vision for a greener Johannesburg.
