Kyalami resident Tamar Gliksman has been selected as one of four sporting heroes for the Fortuner Challenge 2026.

The challenge, which took place from April in Stellenbosch, features athletes from different sporting disciplines competing alongside members of the public in a series of team-based challenges designed to test adaptability, teamwork, and resilience.
Gliksman represented equestrian sport, alongside participants from rugby, soccer and motorsport.

The Challenge is designed to bridge sporting worlds, pairing elite athletes with members of the public in team-based competition.

A University of KwaZulu-Natal staff Member Dr Phumelele Basi has completed a PHD in Gender Education at the age of 25, making her the youngest doctoral graduate at the university’s autumn graduation.

The achievement follows a consistent record of academic excellence, including cum laude and summa cum laude distinctions throughout her undergraduate and postgraduate studies.

Basi currently works as a research assistant, a role the university says continues to strengthen her academic skills while allowing her to contribute to other scholarly projects.
