Man powers electric car with disposable vape batteries
Teaser / Tailpiece story
27-year-old engineer Chris Doel from Warwickshire, England, has powered a small electric car using a homemade battery pack made from 500 discarded vapes. The car, a 2007 G-Wiz, ran for two hours and 18 miles entirely on recycled lithium cells.
Chris spent months extracting the batteries and assembling them into a 3D-printed pack, first testing it to power his home. He says the project was driven by frustration at how many valuable resources are wasted in disposable products.
The project demonstrates how innovation can turn trash into practical, eco-friendly energy, and Chris hopes it will inspire manufacturers to make longer-lasting, recyclable products.
