Bottle tops fund smiles and mobility

South Africans are collecting and donating plastic bottle tops to fund cleft surgeries for children and provide wheelchairs for people who need mobility support.
Petco, Tuffy and Myplas launched the recycling partnership with Operation Smile South Africa and the Sweethearts Wheelchair Foundation yesterday.
Myplas collects the bottle tops, turns them into recycled plastic, and uses the money to support charities.
The campaign also reduces plastic waste by keeping bottle tops out of landfills and the environment.

Joburg launches gig entrepreneur support programme

The City of Johannesburg's Department of Economic Development has launched a four-week JIX LAUNCHPAD programme to help young gig economy entrepreneurs grow their businesses.
The programme will train Johannesburg residents aged 18 to 35 through workshops, mentoring and virtual support delivered by the Wits Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct.
Participants will develop business plans, marketing tools and funding pitches before presenting their ideas to potential funders at a Demo Day.
Priority will be given to women-owned businesses, township enterprises and applicants with disabilities.

ECD practitioners receive training to support children

Early Childhood Development practitioners from ten centres in the Western Cape have received training through Shoprite's Act for Change programme.
The training has equipped them with new skills in teaching, child development and classroom management, benefiting 580 children in Atlantis, Langa and Gugulethu.
Shoprite says it also supports 148 ECD centres across the country with meals and training to help improve early childhood development.
