A Thembisa teacher is continuing to feed hundreds of vulnerable children during the school holidays, ensuring they do not go hungry while school nutrition programmes are paused.
School Based Support Team coordinator Hluphi Shili provides daily meals for between 300 and 400 children, using grocery donations from local businesses and community members, while also contributing her own resources.
The initiative supports learners from informal settlements and surrounding communities who rely on school meals during the school term.

The Nelson Mandela Global Leadership Forum has officially opened in New York, bringing together global leaders, academics, artists and community voices to explore solutions to some of the world's biggest challenges.
Hosted by the Nelson Mandela Foundation, the event features the first Nelson Mandela International Lecture to be held in the United States, with New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani delivering the keynote address on leadership, democracy and justice. The forum forms part of the build up to Nelson Mandela International Day on 18 July.

Kyalami knitters stitch warmth for communities in need

Knit and Natter Kyalami is helping keep vulnerable people warm this winter by knitting beanies, scarves and blankets for donation to schools, charity homes and mothers with newborn babies.
The community initiative brings together about 25 volunteers each month to knit while supporting a range of local causes. What started as a project to teach practical knitting skills to young people has grown into a network that combines creativity with community care.
The group says the initiative has also created lasting friendships while making a meaningful difference to those in need.

Restaurant owner returns R215 000 found in old toolbox

A restaurant owner in Myrtle Beach in the United States is being praised for his honesty after returning the equivalent of more than R215 000 that he found hidden inside an old toolbox.
Sak Yiengjuntuek discovered about 12 000 US dollars in a sunglasses case while clearing out equipment left behind by the previous owner of his restaurant. After realising the cash did not belong to him, he tracked down the former owner and returned every cent.
The former owner later told Sak he is currently battling health issues, meaning the money could not have come at a better time. Sak Yiengjuntuek says returning the money was simply the right thing to do.
