Held last week at the Sandton Convention Centre the meeting gathered delegates from G20 member states, the UN, EU, and NGOs to discuss ways to reduce disaster risks and build resilient communities.
Examples of Nature-Based Solutions include restoring wetlands, reforesting slopes, and planting mangroves to protect coastlines.
G20 DRR Working Group Chair Dr. Bongani Elias Sithole has highlighted the importance of adopting global lessons to improve community engagement and disaster response locally.

Douglasdale Community Policing Forum Calls for Shoe Donations on Mandela Day

The Douglasdale Community Policing Forum is inviting residents in the Douglasdale Police Station precinct to join hands this Mandela Day, by donating new or gently worn school shoes for children in need.
The CPF In partnership with the National Children and Violence Trust has launched the ‘Walk the Walk with Us’ Mandela Day School Shoes Campaign.
CPF public relations officer Freda Boiles is encouraging residents, schools, faith-based organisations and local businesses to take part in the initiative that aims to ensure that children can walk into school with dignity, confidence, and hope.
Today is the last day for donations to be dropped off at the Douglasdale SAPS CSC Centre.

The Mario Gomez Hip Hop Dance Academy was given a hero's welcome at OR Tambo International Airport on Monday after their triumphant return from the Dance World Cup in Spain.
The team delivered high-energy performances, winning gold in the street dance category and racking up an impressive total of 30 medals - 13-gold, 12-silver and 5-bronze.
