Maponya Mall in Soweto launched the Threads Up Charity Store, aimed at supporting vulnerable members of the community.
The initiative encouraged shoppers to donate pre-loved clothing and shoes, which were then made available in a pop-up charity store, allowing families to select items free of charge. Partners included Legacy Community Service, Sakh’ulwazi Foundation and Kagcisham Women Development Center.
According to Maponya Mall, the store helped 70 families, providing essential items while preserving dignity and choice.
The Threads Up Store will soon open to the public, with proceeds supporting local non-profit organisations.

Trevor Noah will host the Grammy Awards for the sixth and final time on 1 February.
Noah has become a familiar face at music’s biggest night, guiding the global event that celebrates the best in music, as voted by the Recording Academy. His role has solidified his status as one of South Africa’s most successful international entertainers.
This year’s ceremony will also mark the end of an era for CBS, which has aired the Grammys since 1973. From 2027, the awards will move to ABC, Hulu, and Disney+ as part of a new 10-year partnership with Disney.

Community organisations from Soweto have hosted a two-day back-to-school campaign at Zola Eco Park to help learners from Zola and Emdeni prepare for the new school year.
The initiative was led by Ekujuleni Kwenhliziyo Community Development, together with Voice It in Action and iSabelo Development Solution. Learners received haircuts, braiding and shoe-polishing services.
Founder Khululiwe Mtshali said the campaign focuses on supporting children from vulnerable backgrounds and encouraging confidence as they return to school.
Organisers say the campaign forms part of ongoing community efforts to support learners and families.
