The initiative encouraged shoppers to donate pre-loved clothing and shoes, which were then made available in a pop-up charity store, allowing families to select items free of charge. Partners included Legacy Community Service, Sakh’ulwazi Foundation and Kagcisham Women Development Center.
According to Maponya Mall, the store helped 70 families, providing essential items while preserving dignity and choice.
The Threads Up Store will soon open to the public, with proceeds supporting local non-profit organisations.

Soweto organisations support learners ahead of school reopening

Community organisations from Soweto have hosted a two-day back-to-school campaign at Zola Eco Park to help learners from Zola and Emdeni prepare for the new school year.
The initiative was led by Ekujuleni Kwenhliziyo Community Development, together with Voice It in Action and iSabelo Development Solution. Learners received haircuts, braiding and shoe-polishing services.
Founder Khululiwe Mtshali said the campaign focuses on supporting children from vulnerable backgrounds and encouraging confidence as they return to school.
Organisers say the campaign forms part of ongoing community efforts to support learners and families.
