Douglasdale Swim Event Raises R8 000 for Children with Cancer

Aqua Marine Aquatics Academy in Douglasdale has raised R8 000 for Rainbows & Smiles through its annual Aqua Marine Mid-Mile charity swim.
Held on 7 February, the event saw 20 swimmers each donate R400 to take part, completing as many pool lengths as they wished. The fundraiser was inspired by the Midmar Mile.
Academy owner Danielle Gál says the initiative builds on a partnership with the charity spanning more than 10 years.
Founder Bonni Suckling says the organisation supports children with cancer and their families in hospital by providing meals, comfort packs and bedside play during treatment.

The Children’s Hospital Trust (CHT) marked 32 years of supporting children’s healthcare at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town. The team brought party bags, toys, treats, and fun to the wards, celebrating the milestone with the children they serve.
Since its founding in 1994, the Trust has invested over R1 billion in improving paediatric healthcare, training specialists, and funding child-focused public health projects in partnership with the Western Cape Department of Health, UCT, and RCWMCH.

the African Union, the fund works to increase African sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List and supports conservation, site rehabilitation, and capacity building for heritage managers.
Executive Director Dr. Albino Jopela says sustainable funding and cooperation with governments remain priorities as Africa faces rapid development and climate challenges.
