A homeless man in KwaNikhwe Village near Mbizana in the Eastern Cape man Mthetheli Msamariya Yigwani has received support after his story went viral on social media.
He had lived on the streets for years, and his situation came to light when he approached an SABC film crew.
Within 48 hours, donations began arriving from across the country, including groceries, a bicycle, and a small cooking area. Longer-term assistance, such as health check-ups and skills training, is also being arranged.
Alfred Nzo District Municipality Mayor Tsileng Tsobuthngo says this will help restore his dignity.

Johannesburg Celebrates International Mother Language Day

The Goethe-Institut Johannesburg will host International Mother Language Day on Saturday, 21 February 2026, celebrating linguistic diversity, cultural identity, and multilingual education. Communities, embassies, schools, and artists will take part in storytelling, language workshops, panel discussions, film screenings, STEM sessions, and live performances.
Participants can explore languages including French, Italian, Kiswahili, and Soweto Language, while panel discussions examine language, education, and social justice. Johannesburg-based flautist Vuyo Viwe Tshwele will perform alongside DJ sets, creating a vibrant festival atmosphere.
The free event runs from 10 am to 4 pm at Goethe-Institut South Africa, Parkwood, Johannesburg.
