Johannesburg Celebrates International Mother Language Day

The Goethe-Institut Johannesburg will host International Mother Language Day on Saturday, 21 February, celebrating linguistic diversity, cultural identity, and multilingual education. Communities, embassies, schools, and artists will take part in storytelling, language workshops, panel discussions, film screenings, STEM sessions, and live performances.
Participants can explore languages including French, Italian, Kiswahili, and Soweto Language, while panel discussions examine language, education, and social justice. .
The free event runs from 10 am to 4 pm at Goethe-Institut South Africa, Parkwood, Johannesburg.

The 13th Investec Cape Town Art Fair has opened at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, bringing together 126 exhibitors from 34 cities and the work of 490 artists from across Africa and the world.
Running from 20 to 22 February, this year’s edition is guided by the curatorial theme “Listen,” inviting visitors to engage with art through dialogue and reflection.
The fair features 42 exhibitors making their debut, including galleries around the world.
