The EmpowerHer Market Trade Fair has been launched during Women’s Month to create more opportunities for women-owned businesses in South Africa.
The initiative connects entrepreneurs with potential investors, buyers and procurement opportunities.
Other programmes, including the South African Women in Science Awards, are supporting women through recognition and postgraduate fellowships.
The SMEWIB Summit on August 27 will also offer women entrepreneurs training and networking opportunities.

Charity Initiative Unites Support for Children

An initiative by the Everyday Kindness Charity Foundation has brought businesses, volunteers and a cancer support organisation together to support children living with cancer.
Volunteers worked as waiters at Panarottis Clearwater, which donated 10 percent of the evening’s turnover to Cupcakes of Hope.
The event also raised awareness ahead of National Cupcake Day on September 26.
Cupcakes will be sold at more than 80 shopping malls across South Africa, with funds raised going towards supporting children with cancer.

Botswana Artist Wins 2026 FNB Art Prize

FNB Art Joburg has named Botswana artist Kelebogile Marope as the winner of the 2026 FNB Art Prize.
Marope is the first artist from Botswana to receive the award, now in its 16th year.
She will receive a cash prize and a solo exhibition at the Johannesburg Art Gallery in 2027.
Marope says the prize belongs to her community and students:

Western Cape Learners Win International Space Competition

Seven Western Cape high school learners have won an international space engineering competition at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, United States.
The learners competed in South Africa’s first entry, joining students from around the world to design and defend a spacecraft for 3,000 people.
South African learner Joseph Allderman also won the Anita Gale Creative Genius Prize.
The victory is expected to boost opportunities for young South Africans in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
