Inaugural Main Street Sundays a success
Story 2
The inaugural Main Street Sundays has been deemed a success after Joburg residents filled a car-free stretch of Main Street in the CBD this past weekend.
The City of Johannesburg, Jozi My Jozi, Young Urbanists NPC and Johannesburg In Your Pocket closed the section between Ntemi Piliso and Rissik Streets to test a walkable inner city.
Residents took part in activities including yoga, cycling tracks, art installations and children’s play areas as the CBD was temporarily turned over to pedestrians and cyclists.
The pilot forms part of efforts to encourage greater public use of inner-city streets and support Johannesburg’s CBD revitalisation programme.
