Sandton hotel relaunches blanket drive to support vulnerable communities this winter

The Protea Hotel by Marriott Johannesburg Balalaika Sandton has launched a renewed blanket drive aimed at supporting vulnerable communities as winter approaches.
The initiative forms part of the hotel’s broader community outreach programme, which has included previous drives collecting teddy bears and seasonal donations for nearby organisations.
This year’s campaign will run until the end of May, with blankets to be distributed to people in need in Sandton and surrounding areas, including Alexandra.

Northern Cape secures R105 billion boost for jobs and growth

The Northern Cape’s first Investment and Jobs Conference has closed with more than R105 billion in investor pledges, giving the province a major boost as it targets an economy worth at least R200 billion by 2030.
The three day event also saw the National Empowerment Fund showcase more than R300 million in funded businesses, which have already helped create jobs in the province.
Leaders say the strong response from investors strengthens the Northern Cape’s push to grow key sectors like green energy, mining and small business development.
Tourism and Development MEC Venus Blennies says they are excited to have exceeded the target.

Bryanston Primary celebrates former pupil driving sports charity for youth

A Johannesburg varsity student and Bryanston Primary alumnus, Ross Goodwin, has returned to his former school to inspire learners through his charity Play It Forward Jozi.
The initiative collects gently used sporting equipment and redistributes it to underprivileged communities across South Africa, helping young athletes access gear they would otherwise not be able to afford.
The school has also pledged support for the project through its community outreach programme, strengthening efforts to expand its impact to more schools and sporting clubs.
