TUT Solar Car Team Wins International Award

The Tshwane University of Technology Solar Car Project Team has won the 2025 CAETS Communication Prize for their SunChaser project.
Their five-minute video, titled “Sustainable Automotive Technologies: a TUT Case Study,” showcased the engineering, innovation, and societal impact of the SunChaser models, including the latest SunChaser 4.
The video highlights student participation, community engagement, and sustainable technology, impressing a judging panel from countries including Australia, China, India, the Netherlands, Nigeria, and Uruguay.
University leaders praised the achievement, saying it demonstrates resilience, engineering excellence, and TUT’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
The CAETS Communication Prize honours outstanding audio-visual communication that explains technological advances in a simple and engaging way, inspiring students and educating the public about engineering’s impact on society.

New Frame Showcases Table Mountain’s Beauty

In celebration of Heritage and Tourism Month, the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company has unveiled a striking New7Wonders of Nature frame on the mountain.
The bright yellow frame is one of seven across Cape Town designed to give locals and visitors the perfect picture opportunity with the city’s iconic scenery.
It replaces the frame previously at Cape Town Station Forecourt, which was removed during precinct upgrades.
The new addition is being hailed as a milestone and a celebration of the city’s heritage, natural beauty and tourism appeal.

SA Doctor Tackles Period Poverty with Leak-Proof Underwear

A Rustenburg doctor has come up with special underwear to help women during their periods.
Dr Millicent Pheyaga designed BLoT Underwear, which can be washed and reused, stopping leaks and lasting up to three years.
It works out cheaper than buying sanitary towels every month and could help girls stay in school instead of missing classes.
Pheyaga hopes to one day build a local factory to make the underwear more affordable and create jobs for young women.
Her invention is already being hailed as a game-changer in women’s health and dignity.
