The University of Johannesburg’s Women’s Under-20 football team has capped off a stellar year by winning the Engen Champ of Champs tournament.
The “Orange Army” defeated Durban Ladies 1-0 in the final at the High-Performance Centre in Pretoria on 12 October 2025.
This victory follows their Engen Knockout Challenge win in July, giving the team a remarkable double.
UJ showcased strong performances throughout the tournament, scoring 11 goals and conceding just three.
Defender Portia Masilela was named Defender of the Tournament, while goalkeeper Siphokazi Xaba earned Goalkeeper of the Tournament honours.

The Women20 Summit was held from 12 to 14 October 2025 at the Vivari Hotel and Spa in Krugersdorp, bringing together leaders, advocates, and delegates to discuss policies and strategies that advance women’s empowerment.
The summit provided a platform to address key social and economic challenges, including access to education, health, and digital opportunities, and to ensure women’s voices shape national and global agendas.
Speaking at the event, South Africa’s Minister of Human Settlements, Thembisile Simelane, emphasised the importance of leaving no woman behind, highlighting the need to tackle poverty, landlessness, and inequality that affect women and children.

Legendary musician and activist Fela Kuti, the "King of Afrobeat," is being honoured in his hometown of Lagos through the "Afrobeat Rebellion" exhibition.
Organised by the French Embassy and the Kuti family, it coincides with the annual Felabration festival and follows a similar Paris event in 2022.
The exhibition offers an immersive journey through Fela’s life, music, and political activism, featuring his Kalakuta commune, the Afrika Shrine, archived objects, and multimedia installations.
It celebrates his enduring legacy and influence on generations of artists and activists worldwide.
