Melville is undergoing a neighbourhood makeover ahead of The Happening, set to return in March 2026.
The Melville Residents Association and Business Association, together with Vuka Spark Empowerment and Creass Community Services, have started repainting sidewalks and curbs, refreshing road markings, and revamping planters.
The initiative follows similar community efforts in 2024 and aims to enhance the suburb’s creative and cultural atmosphere.
The upcoming event will focus on creativity, audience participation, and acts of kindness, with no sponsorships or financial transactions involved.

The University of the Western Cape has signed a landmark development agreement with Kovacs to tackle the ongoing student accommodation crisis.
The partnership, which began in 2010, has transformed the Kovacs precinct into a vibrant residential hub with 1,100 existing beds.
The latest phase will add 896 new beds, bringing the total capacity to nearly 2,000, within walking distance of lecture halls and campus facilities.
UWC officials emphasised that the project goes beyond housing, aiming to provide safe, supportive, and well-designed spaces that promote student success and wellbeing.
