Mpumalanga’s cleanest school will receive more than R200,000 this year as the provincial education department relaunches its campaign to improve school cleanliness, safety and infrastructure.
The announcement was made by Education MEC Lindi Masina during the launch of the 2026 Rhandza Xikolo Xa Wena Campaign at Mahhushe Agricultural Secondary School in Nkomazi.
The initiative includes district-level competitions across the province, with schools selected and assessed before a provincial winner is announced in September.
Officials say the campaign is aimed at building pride, accountability and safer learning environments, while also encouraging community involvement in school development.

UJ Student Helps Johannesburg’s Homeless

A third-year University of Johannesburg student is helping homeless people across Johannesburg through her outreach initiative, Seeds of Kindness.
Athina Shezi started the project to provide meals, clothing and support to vulnerable people living on the streets, inspired by her grandmother’s compassion and belief in ubuntu.
Using donations and volunteer support, the initiative now assists both homeless people and struggling students in Johannesburg.
